Local time in Chile, on June 30th, the finale of 2018 Chilean Youth Chinese Song Contest was successfully held in the auditorium of Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. The event was honored by the attendance of authorities from the Chinese Embassy in Chile: Li Wuji, Political Counsellor and Chargé d'Affaires; He Yong, Cultural Counsellor; and Yu Yang, Director of the Consular Department. The event also had the attendance of Chen Ping, Consul General of the General Consulate of China in Iquique; Sun Xintang, Deputy Director of the Latin American Center of Confucius Institute, and Gu Hongjuan, Academic Director of the Confucius Institute at Pontifical Catholic University of Chile (ICUC), teachers and students of ICUC, overseas Chinese and Chinese culture lovers from Chile. In total, more than 400 people attended this event.

After the preliminary and semi-final, only 6 contestants entered the finale. Among them, Isa Contador, student of ICUC, won the first place with the touching song “Mother” which impressed all the judges and audience. Sui-Mei Chea, from La Serena, won the second place with the song “Remember” by Zhang Huimei, because of her beautiful voice and standard Chinese pronunciation. In addition, Lai Wenliang and Javier Covacevich, two “Best Students” of ICUC, sang “Ballon of Confession” by Zhou Jielun and “I really miss you” by Fei Yuqing. Two songs of different styles raised all the audience’s spirits.

In the past four years, through the Chinese Song Contest, ICUC has provided a stage for many Chilean youths and Chinese culture lovers to show their talents and realize their dreams, and has also built a bridge to promote the cultural communication between China and Chile.
